Environmental sustainability drove the development of this amazing site on the edge of the Waikato River. The overall aim was to

  • Encourage wildlife and biodiversity by reintroducing the natural habitat of this area.
  • Create as little disruption to the land as possible and work with it long term.
.

Site Clearance

Photos show site after being physically cleared & sprayed.

  • Exotic plants, invasive weeds, old concrete and timber fencing were disposed of in an environmentally responsible way.
.

Site Development

Retaining existing site contours with minimal expensive retaining walls and appropriate erosion control planting.

  • Native Plants originally characteristic of this area were eco-sourced.
  • Plants were deeply planted to capture as much rainwater as possible.
  • Where possible pots were returned to wholesalers or reused.
  • Wool weed mat was used rather than the plastic non biodegradable weed mat for mulching, moisture retention and erosion control.
  • Climatic and geographical challenges of the site were overcome through appropriate planting, fence design and materials.
  • Locally sourced macrocarpa and pine used.
  • Permeable, pebble pathway to reduce water runoff.
.
